Raw rice ( Pachari ) - 3 cups
Black gram ( Urad dal or Uzhunnu ) - 1 cup
Salt - 1 Tsp
Wash the rice and urad dal together.
Add plenty of water and allow to soak for 7-8 hours.
Rewash the mixture by draining the water 2-3 times.
Grind to a paste. Add salt and mix well. Keep aside to ferment in a warm place for 8-10 hours.
Heat water in a steamer.
Spread some oil on the idli trays.
Pour the batter onto idli trays and steam cook for about 5-10 minutes.
You can use a skewer to check if the idlis are cooked.
Serve with coconut chutney and sambhar.
