Listed in: Breakfast
Pachari (raw long grain rice) - 250 gm (1 Nazhi)
Grated Coconut - from 1/2 a coconut
Yeast - 1/2 Tsp
Sugar or sharkkara - 1/2 cup or according to your taste
Cardamom - 2
To decorate (optional)
Cashews and Raisins - a handful
Soak the pachari in water for about 6 hrs. Drain the water and keep aside.
In a mixer grinder, grind the pachari without adding water.
Grate the coconut coarsely like for thoran. Add this to the ground pachari.
Add the sugar or jaggery.
Combine activated yeast.(Add the yeast to lukewarm sugary water to activate it, or as per instructions on the pack).
Add just enough water to make it to the consistency of idli batter. (You may also use coconut water for better taste).
Leave this mixture overnight to rise up. Next day (about 8 hrs later) pour this into a suitable round vessel for steaming.
In a steamer, steam this for about 20 minutes.
Halfway through the steaming you may decorate it on top with cashews and raisins which have been fried in ghee.
Remove from steamer and keep aside for cooling.
Cut into triangular pieces and serve with tea or coffee.
