Mutton 1/2 kg
Onion - 1
Ginger - 1 inch piece
Garlic - 4 pods
Green Chilli - 4
Tomato - 1, medium sized
Jeera - 1 tsp
Coriander - 1 Tblsp
Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
Cardamom - 3
Cloves - 5
Bayleaves - 2
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Poppy seeds - 1 tsp
Pepper whole - 5
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Chillipowder - 1 tblsp
Salt as per taste
Oil as required
Wast the mutton and cut into medium size pieces.
Chop the onions and tomato.
Grind ginger, garlic and green chilli.
Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan and add jeera, coriander, redchilli, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves. Stir for 30 seconds and add coconut, poppy seeds, pepper.
Once coconut becomes golden brown, switch off and grind this mix into a thick paste and keep aside.
Heat oil and splutter mustard and throw in the curry leaves.
Add onion, when it becomes golden brown add, ginger, garlic, bayleaves.
Add mutton and stir continuously for 10 min on high flame.
Add turmeric, chilli powder, salt & tomato.
Cook till the oil separates.
Cook the mutton adding 2 cups of water.
When the mutton is almost cooked add the masala paste that was prepared earlier.
Cook further till the gravy becomes thick.
Serve with rice or parotta.
