Biriyani rice (Basmati Rice) - 1 glass
Cauliflower (Gobi) - 1 Cup
Tomatoes - 2 (sliced)
Big Onions - 3 (sliced)
Ginger - 1/4 inch (crushed)
Garlic - 5 or 6 (crushed)
Fennel Seeds (Perum Jeerakam) - 1/2 Tbsp
Cloves (Grambu) - 2
Cardomom powder (elakka)-3
Garam masala-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tbsp
Chilli powder-1/2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Water - 1 3/4 Glass (depends upon the type of basmati rice chosen)
Lemon - 1/2
Serves 2 people
First of all,to remove the toxins and worms in case present in the cauliflower,cut each flowers into very nice pieces vertically(retaining its flower shape ie a single one vertically into 4 pieces or so).then heat a vessel. Pour some water. Cook this gobi by adding turmeric powder into it with salt.When it boils ,simmer the flame and cook for 10 mins.
Then drain the water and add chilly powder. Check the amount of salt. If necessary add more. Mix well and marinate for 5 mins. Deep fry it in oil till it turns light brown(dont burn it).
Keep it aside.then in a pan add oil.when it becomes hot add onions.saute it well till it turns light rose(Add some salt to get sauted quickly). Add tomatoes,fenugreek,cloves,cinnamon,cardomom powder and garam masala powder.suate it well. Then add fried gobi to this till it gets mixed with the masala. Keep this aside.
Now wash the rice(1 glass) well.drain the water.take a cooker.when it becomes hot,add rice along with water(1 3/4 glass). Add garam masala and salt.then half lemon water.close with a lid.keep in a high flame.when steam comes, put weight and simmer. Either turn off after 15 mins or when a whislte comes whichever is earlier(Usually whistle comes first).
Then heat the pan containing gobi masala.To this add rice.close the lid.simmer the flame and let it get cooked for 5 mins. Put off the flame and mix well till all the masala and rice becomes one and the colour of the rice changes to brown.serve hot.

This is a super recipe for vegeterians as well as non-vegeterians. This one of the favourite recipe of my husband and 20 month old son.Plsss try it.you are worth it.Whenever you feel to eat a biriyani go for this recipe preperation.
Your heart and stomach will be full.(keep in mind that gobi should be light brownish in colour when fried). This is the secret in the taste of the biriyani .
