Kerala Murukku Recipe Recipe

Ingredients Rice flour - 3 cups
Urad dal powder (Uzhunnu Podi) - half cup
Water - 2 cups
Omam (nigella seeds or onion seeds or kalonji) - 1/2 Tsp
Asafoetida (kayam) - 2 pinches
Red chilli powder - 1 Tsp
Butter - 2 Tsp (optional)
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
Cooking InstructionsMix the rice flour, urad dal powder, nigella seeds, asafoetida, salt, red chilli powder, butter with water to form a thick paste. Fill it in a sevanazhi used for making idiyappam with the star hole attachment. Heat oil in a deep frying pan. When the oil is hot, press the flour paste out into the oil in the desired murukku shape. Drain and keep aside. When they have cooled down, store in an airtight container. Serve as a tea time snack.
