Churakka thoran (Bottlegourd Thoran) Recipe

Ingredients Churakka (Dudhi or Lauki or Bottlegourd)- 2 Shallots or onions chopped - 2 Tbsp
Curry leaves - a few
Turmeric powder - 1/2 Tsp
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Corinader powder - 1 Tsp
Chilly powder - 1 Tsp
Water - 3 Tbsp
Oil - 2 Tbsp
Salt to taste
Cooking InstructionsRemove the skin and deseed the churakka. Wash, chop finely and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan. Add the chopped onions or shallots and sauté well. Add the turmeric powder and coriander powder and sauté well. Add the chopped churakka and salt. Mix well. Sprinkle water. cover with a lid and cook for about 5 minutes. Open the lid. Add the grated coconut and curry leaves. Mix well and simmer for few minutes. This is a dry dish that makes a good accompaniment to saucy curries and rice.
