Payaru Theeyal Recipe

Ingredients 1. Beans - 1 cup
2. Red onion – ¼ cup
3. Green chilly - 2
4. Coconut oil – ½ tbsp
5. Coconut - 1 cup (grated)
6. Chilly powder – ½ tsp
7. Fenugreek seeds (uluva) - a pinch
8. Turmeric powder – ¼ sp
9. Tamarind water- ½ cup
10. Salt – to taste
11. Curry leaf – as required
12. Coconut oil – ½ tsp
13. Red chilly - 1 (slice in 2)
14. Mustard (kaduku) - ¼ tsp
15. Red onion – ½ tsp
Cooking Instructions1. Sauté the beans, red onion and green chilly separately in coconut oil and keep it aside.
2. Fry the grated coconut in the same oil till it turns brown in color and add the chilly powder, fenugreek seeds and turmeric powder to it and mix well. Take it from flame.
3. Grind this mixture still hot and keep it aside.
4. Cook the sautéed beans, red onion and green chilly with tamarind water, salt and curry leaf in a clay vessel with required water and add the grinded coconut mixture to it and mix well. Take it from flame.
5. Sauté the red chilly, mustard and red onion in coconut oil and pour it to the theeyal.
6. Serve it hot with rice.

Payaru theeyal is a regional recipe of keralites which can be used as a side dish with rice. It’s not only a tasty dish but a healthy one too.
