Vellarikka Pulissery Recipe

Ingredients Cucumber (Vellarika) peeled and cubed - 2 Cup
Yoghurt (Preferably thick and sour Curd) - 1 Cup
Grated Coconut - half Cup
Cumin seeds (Jeerakam) - half teaspoon
Turmeric powder - half teaspoon
Mustard seeds - half teaspoon
Chopped Onions or shallots - 2 tablespoon
Curry leaves - a few
Dry Red chilli - 2
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tablespoon
Cooking InstructionsCook the cubed cucumber adding a pinch of turmeric powder and salt as per taste with just enough water to cover.
Grind the coconut, cumin, and remaining turmeric powder into fine paste and keep aside.
Beat the yoghurt and keep aside.
When the cucumber is cooked add the ground paste and simmer for 3 minutes.
Remove from heat and then add the yoghurt, mix well.
In another pan heat the oil and splutter the mustard seeds.
Add the onions, and dry red chilli and sauté well.
When the onions starts to brown add the curry leaves and mix.
Pour this seasoning on to the pulissery.
Serve hot with rice.
